Counter UAS

The challenges

• Since the drone intrusion at Gatwick Airport in late 2018 and subsequent escalation of drone use in military conflicts, the UAS threat has gained considerable momentum.
• Where the offensive/combat drone was once the preserve of the world’s military superpowers, it has fast become the symbol of a new age of warfare and threat.
• The use, and potential use, of drones by insurgents and smaller nations and groups has dramatically changed the threat landscape.
• Law enforcement, counter terrorism and military communities worldwide need to find better and more effective ways to mitigate the increasing drone/UAS risk. What is needed is a whole new approach.

The solution

The Cunning Running software that aids the planning of effective counter UAS defences

UAS-PRAS is our counter drone vulnerability assessment tool. It provides security personnel with efficient and low resource pre-emptive sensor siting and planning. (For military counter-UAS, please refer to our FPPT solution page.)

In civilian applications, the UAS-PRAS software identifies any potential Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) launch areas mitigating the risk of UAS operators carrying out actions such as illegal filming or delivery of illegal or threatening cargo.

In the case of a live UAS strike, the UAS-PRAS software will aid in the capture and prosecution of the operating pilots. It can also import recovered UAS flight data and display the flight path in both 2D and 3D providing law enforcement teams with evidence of a drone incursion.

Security personnel use the software technology to answer time- and resource-critical questions to ensure maximum effectiveness. For example: What counter-UAS components are needed and where should they be sited? What coverage will be achieved and are additional resources needed? Do I know where a pilot could be located and how can I achieve shared situational awareness?
